Legacy Giving.

ABOUT

Your kindness can live on.

End-of-life planning means you can make the powerful decision to leave a lasting legacy in your community. Legacy giving – also known as planned giving or bequeathment – is a donation of assets, rather than income or revenue, as laid out in a donor’s will or estate plan.

Your selflessness can help families in their moments of greatest need, creating a lasting gift of hope and support for your neighbours and loved ones.

THE IMPACT OF LEGACY GIVING

With legacy giving, 100% of your gift supports our work.

That means better medical care, treatments, training, and facilities for southeastern Alberta – everything from welcoming new lives into this world to providing greater comfort for those in their final days.

Legacy giving also benefits you and your family, too. Thanks to robust incentives and regulations, it’s possible to reduce the amount of tax owed on your final return, meaning those you leave behind keep more of what you leave them.

Ways you can give.

Bequeath Assets In Your Will

This is a very popular act of generosity. It costs you nothing, and it can lower or even eliminate taxes owed on your estate.

Charitable Annuities

This unique arrangement enables a charitable gift to the MHHF, while also ensuring you and your surviving partner receive guaranteed income for life.

Securities

Securities like stocks, mutual funds, and bonds can be left to us. If you choose to do so, capital gains taxes are eliminated and you receive a charitable tax receipt, too.

Retirement Funds

You can designate our Foundation as the beneficiary of retirement funds like RRSPs, helping you avoid probate fees and benefitting your estate with a correlated tax receipt.

Gifts-in-kind

Tangible assets like real estate, vehicles, jewelry, artwork, and other valuables can be donated in your will – and receive a tax receipt for fair market value.

Life Insurance

Donating existing or new life insurance benefits turns your small monthly premium into a major contribution.

A partner in giving.

We are proud to partner with Will Power, a national public education campaign designed to inspire Canadians to think differently about charitable giving and empower them to create positive change through their wills.

INSPIRING STORIES

One couple’s story.

Darlene and Brian Neigum have been loyal supporters of our Foundation since its beginning many years ago. They have donated an incredible 119 times over those years! But what makes this wonderful couple extra special is their decision to leave us a further gift in their estate through legacy giving…

No. We will gratefully accept anything you choose to give, no matter the scale. Even a few dollars can help us buy a toy for a scared child staying in our hospital for the first time, a pair of warm socks for a cold patient, or a cup of coffee for an exhausted parent.
